The Dental Appliance Manufacturers Audit System (DAMAS) was developed by the Dental Laboratories Association of the United Kingdom as a management tool for dental labs in the UK, and is now available in the US through a partnership created by NADL. DAMAS is based upon the sound quality system management principles specified in ISO 9002. However, they have been adapted and simplified to meet the requirements of the Medical Devices Directive (MDD) and Medical Devices Regulations (MDR) used in Europe, and reflect the practical application of manufacturing dental appliances in the US. The DAMAS System outlines a documentation process that enables a dental laboratory owner or management personnel to better track the development of dental prosthetics within the laboratory. The system provides peace of mind for a laboratory owner to be able to track the step-by-step progression of specific cases. By using the DAMAS System, a laboratory can feel confident in marketing their services to dental clients who care about patient protection and DAMAS provides the specific case information to assist a laboratory in the case of litigation.
